When measuring the Mitsubishi Outlander fuel efficiency, we need to analyze all Outlander configurations. The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander’s front-wheel-drive version has a fuel economy rating of 24 mpg when driving in city traffic and 31 mpg at highway speeds. When upgrading to the all-wheel-drive version, the ratings drop slightly to 23 mpg and 30 mpg, respectively. Considering the Outlander’s size and capability, it offers great fuel efficiency ratings compare to most other three-row SUVs.

Other Outlander models, such as Outlander Sport and Outlander PHEV, are also very economical. Even when equipped with the 168-horsepower 2.4-liter engine, the Sport has a combined rating of 25 mpg, while the PHEV plug-in hybrid can run for up to 24 miles solely on electric power. If you live close to your workplace, you can realistically drive it to work and back every day without using gas.

2022 Outlander Performance Features

2022 Outlander Trim Level Differences

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is available in five trims: the ES, SE, SE Launch Edition, SEL, and SEL Launch Edition. Each trim level brings a different set of performance features, interior options, and more. Below we’ll explore the differences with each trim level.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander ES Trim

Even the standard ES trim is very well-equipped, with standard features such as 18-inch wheels, an 8-inch touch-screen interface, a six-speaker audio system, LED headlights, a push-button ignition system, dual-zone automatic climate control, seamless smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and many others. It also comes with very useful driving aids, such as forward collision mitigation, rear automatic braking, lane departure warning, and driver attention warning systems.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SE Trim

The next trim, the SE, improves upon the standard model with many useful additions. It also includes the Convenience package, which is optional on the standard trim and adds 20-inch wheels, and Mitsubishi Connect, a subscription-based service that provides emergency support and lets you access some of the car’s functions through your smartphone. Other features of the SE trim include heated exterior mirrors, automatic wipers, a keyless entry system, a larger 9-inch touch-screen interface with a navigation system, USB ports for the rear seats, and more. The SE Launch Edition trim is similar, with minor tech and aesthetic additions.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL Trim

Moving up the trim ladder, the SEL trim has all the features of the SE but adds useful and good-looking extras such as power-folding side mirrors, a huge 12.3-inch instrument panel, tri-zone climate control, memory settings for the driver’s seat, a power passenger seat, heated rear seats, ambient lighting for the entire cabin, roof rails, and elegant leather upholstery. A Touring package is also available for the SEL trim, adding a panoramic sunroof, a crisp-sounding Bose audio system, heated steering wheel, even better-looking leather upholstery, and a heads-up display.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL Launch Edition Trim

Finally, the top SEL Launch Edition trim combines all the features available for other trims, including the SEL with Touring package and the SE Launch Edition. Also, unlike all other trims, which are available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive, the SEL Launch Edition only comes in all-wheel drive, allowing the driver to experience the absolute best of what the Outlander and other Mitsubishi SUVs can deliver, in terms of performance, utility, and comfort.
